Perpetual Motion
From the show Forever and Again by Alex Yoder, Perpetual Motion will
take you on a musical journey that celebrates the artistry of music
and motion on a football field. Hence the name of the show, Perpetual
Motion, the Spring Woods High School Band will be in constant movement
from the pre-show featuring a pre-recorded a cappella performance of
Ben Fold's "Magic" to the very last note of the performance.
Perpetual Motion is the first of three movements which get the musical
"gears" rolling. Even though the show begins subtly with woodwind
solos, the music slow builds with loud brass and percussion hits, stating
the main theme that can be found throughout the performance. The movement
ends just as the beginning and goes directly into the second movement
entitled Solitaire. Solitaire is the haunting ballad that not only could
conjure up memories of sadness with the lone flute solo, but also resolution
with the band's triumphant company front.
The last movement is entitled Threshold. By definition, Threshold is
the point at which a stimulus (music) is of sufficient intensity to
begin to produce an effect. The musical "gears" are running
full speed ahead. Threshold is an aggressively fast and somewhat intense
movement that features great percussion solos. Just when you are at
the point of no return, the energy and magic of the first movement is
recapped to end our field production.
