Don Zurbriggen
Don
Zurbriggen is currently the Head Director of Bands at Spring Woods High
School. He joined the Spring Woods High School Band Staff as Assistant
Director in 2006. Prior to that, he was the Director of Bands at Spring
Woods Middle School from 1998-2006, Assistant Director of Bands at Memorial
Middle School in 1997 and Assistant Director at Midland High School
in Midland, Texas from 1995-1997. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University
with a Bachelor’s of Music in 1995.
Mr. Zurbriggen has received numerous awards in both his teaching career
and in individual performance on his main instrument, the saxophone.
He was a two-time All-State saxophone player and placed in the top 4
chairs both years. He was awarded a music scholarship to Texas Tech
University in 1990 and studied under Don Turner and the late James Sudduth.
He was named principal saxophonist of the Texas Tech Wind Ensemble as
a freshman and held that position for the duration of his college career.
While at Texas Tech he was awarded the Outstanding Woodwind award in
the Texas Tech marching band. In 1993, he performed with the Texas Tech
Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Mr. Zurbriggen’s ensembles have consistently earned top ratings
at the UIL Concert and Sight reading contests earning first divisions
in 1995, 1997, 2000-2007.
In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his dog Noah and enjoys
movies and meeting his friends out for a night on the town. He is thrilled
he is a part of Spring Woods High School and to work with such inspirational
students.
Jeff
Munger
Jeff Munger is currently the Assistant Director of Bands at Spring
Woods High School and joined us in 2009. Prior to this, he was the Assistant
Director at Langham Creek High School here in Houston.
Jeff is a native Houstonian graduating from Klein Oak High School in
2000. Jeff attended Stephen F. Austin University receiving his Bachelors
Degree in Music Education in 2006 and then later received his Masters
Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Houston in 2008.
While at University of Houston, he was the Principal Percussionist of
the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra and was a teaching assistant
of percussion studies. He also received the Victor Cruz Gonzalez Memorial
Percussion Award and was part of the SFA Jazz ensemble.
